How to Use a Laser Marking Machine

 Laser marking machines use laser beams to create permanent markings on various material surfaces. So, how does a laser marking machine work? Below is a guide to using a laser marking machine:

I. Preparations Before Using the Laser Marking Machine

1. Review the required operating instructions and prepare the necessary tools and products in advance;

2. Wear professional safety goggles before starting work;

3. Check that the pump contains electrolyzed water at the appropriate water level before use;

4. Inspect the electrical system switches and circuitry for reliability before operation.

II. Steps for Using the Laser Marking Machine

Power On

1. Turn on the input power supply and activate the key switch. The machine's ventilation and cooling system will power up, with the ammeter displaying approximately 7A;

2. Wait 5–10 seconds, then press the trigger button on the external control panel. The ammeter should read zero. After 3–5 seconds, the krypton lamp will illuminate, and the ammeter will display 7A. (Refer to the laser power supply manual);

3. Turn on the galvanometer power supply;

4. Power on the computer and load the required marking file;

5. Adjust the laser power to the operating current (10–18A) to begin marking.

Marking Operation

1. Double-click the marking program icon to launch the software;

2. Select the marking file, double-click to modify the date and time in the content field, then click OK to confirm changes.

Marking Test and Positioning

1. On the workbench or production line, place a test piece matching the height of the marked workpiece (ideally using the actual workpiece as the test piece) and ensure it is stable;

2. Perform marking via the marking control software. For optimal results, adjust the following:

① Adjust the focal length using the laser head elevation mechanism;

② Modify parameters like power and marking speed within the marking software;

③ Enter the software, double-click the print date, and drag the mouse up/down to adjust the print position to the desired location;

④ After completing the above steps, proceed with the print test;

⑤ Once the test is successful, make a note on the workpiece.

After marking is complete, turn off the power to each component in reverse order as follows:

1. Adjust the laser power supply's operating current to the minimum (approximately 7A);

2. Shut down the computer;

3. Turn off the galvanometer power supply;

4. Press the stop button;

5. Turn off the key switch;

6. Disconnect the input power supply.

III. Krypton Lamp Usage and Replacement Method

1. Turn off the water cooler and laser power supply. Open the top three cavity covers, remove the lamp or crystal to be replaced, install the new one, and secure the cavity covers.

2. Turn on the water chiller and laser power supply. Adjust the laser power supply current to approximately (15~20) A. Place a small piece of wood or black paper between the front diaphragm and beam expander. You should observe a laser-ablated spot. If not, slightly adjust the three knobs on the front diaphragm bracket until a spot appears.

3. After initial laser alignment, repeatedly adjust the three knobs on the front aperture bracket to achieve the strongest spot. If the laser appears excessively bright or intense, reduce the power supply current.

4. Turn off the laser power supply.

5. Special Note: Krypton Lamp Replacement Timing: When installing a new krypton lamp, record the laser power meter reading during normal marking as the standard current value. As the krypton lamp gradually ages, increase the laser power supply's current output, but ensure the ammeter reading does not exceed 1.25 times the standard current value.
