Image Processing Theory for Fiber Laser Marking Machines

Principles of Fiber Laser Marking Machine Controllers and Image Processing Theory: Development and Research of Fiber Laser Marking Machine Software for Scanning Marking Using the BMP Image File Format. The primary task of this software is to apply mature image processing methods to fiber laser marking machines, achieving high-quality image results and providing image data for subsequent marking operations. The software consists of two main components: image processing and marking execution.

A BMP bitmap file typically comprises four sections: the bitmap file header, bitmap information header, palette, and bitmap data. Utilizing Visual C++ object-oriented programming methods, a device-independent bitmap CDIB class library is constructed. This library handles DIB file read/write operations, image display, and palette manipulation, providing relevant information such as bitmap width, height, and number of colors. To meet marking requirements, color images undergo grayscale conversion. By adjusting the grayscale range of the original image, optimal visual effects are achieved. Geometric transformations alter spatial relationships between objects within the image. Combining operations like translation, mirroring, transposition, inversion, and rotation enables diverse geometric deformations, satisfying requirements for object positioning and various geometric shapes.

For fiber laser marking systems, the controlled laser state has only two states: emission and non-emission, corresponding to black and white in the image. Therefore, the image requires thresholding to obtain a binary image. Appropriate thresholds are selected based on different images to achieve grayscale image binarization. Edge detection first identifies discontinuities in local image characteristics, then connects these discontinuous edge pixels into complete boundaries to generate a continuous image. Different edge detection operators are applied to extract image features based on the specific image type. Noise is introduced during image formation, transmission, reception, and processing. Noise reduction processing can minimize redundant information in the image.

Erosion and dilation effectively remove noise from binary images. Thinning operations accentuate shape characteristics while reducing redundant information. A laser marking machine control system was constructed using a PC, D/A converter, and dual-mirror scanning system. During marking, the D/A converter converts image coordinate data into analog voltage values, controlling mirror rotation to define the laser path and implementing delay settings.
